The faculty of various departments are actively pursuing research in their respective technical departments. The Consultancy Project Civil Works (TPQC), worth above One Hundred Crore is carried out by our faculty. In the academic year 2018-19 our faculty published more than 980 research papers in various national and international conferences and journals. 35 no. of patents and 22 books have been also published by SMEC faculty.
A few of our senior students also, contributed by publishing research papers in international conferences. Presently 37 faculties are registered with various universities and are pursuing research leading to Ph.D. Faculty and students have jointly developed many products and systems with their in-house research efforts.
A few research projects currently in hand are Artificial Intelligence-based Interactive Robot (LAILA), 3D Printing, Abrasive Jet Machining, High-Temperature Formability Testing, Biodiesel from Waste Plastic. Our students were awarded the best project in Rural Innovation Startup Enclave August 2018 conducted by the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj for project Automatic Vending Machine of Hygienic Napkins as an innovation STREE SWASTHA. Another project 3D Printer was also accredited as a second-best prize at National Level Innovation and Technology Summit Gujrat 2016. Other project domains include Cloud computing, web Technologies, Data analysis, Speech recognition, Embedded System, Data mining, Information security, Big Data, and Digital Image Processing. Our students received several awards and prizes for the display of their research products. Typically i) First prize for plastic pavements at IIT Mumbai, and also for light-emitting concrete ii) First Prize for hydraulic structures and other advanced structures model at A.P State Irrigation Department at their training and Research Centre WALAMTARI iii) First prize at Osmania University on Structural Model Making. Students also got the best project award for "Power Spy” in JNTUH HUB in 2018-2019.
The college conducted Technology Awareness Month (TAM) from 05 January 2018 to 02 February 2018. The visiting faculty disseminated various state of the art technologies through their expert lecture of specialization. Students of respective streams visited Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, Government of Telangana, Diesel loco shed south central railway Moulaali Hyderabad, National Remote Sensing Centre, High Voltage Electrical Power Substation, T.S. Transco, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd., etc. Some of the projects completed by our students are:
  • Dry waste dust collection over IoT
  • Industrial Automation using IoT
  • Wireless Video Surveillance
  • Mission agriculture
  • Hybrid Vehicle
Some of the running projects are Solar Operated Pesticide Sprinkler and IoT based smart bike. 20 no. of research projects worth more than Three Crore Thirty-Eight Lakhs, have been applied to Science and Engineering Research Board, Govt. of India, by our faculty.
  • First prize at Osmania University on Structural Model Making
  • Another prize on similar exhibition conducted by A.P State Irrigation Department at their training and Research Centre WALAMTARI
