Dr. B.P. Singh completed his B.E. in Electrical Engineering in 1968 from Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology, Bihar. He completed his M.E. (High voltage) in 1971 from I.I.Sc Bangalore and Ph.D from Electrical Engineering Department, University of Liverpool, England in 1974. He worked for year on Post Doctoral fellowship at the same university on a project sponsored by United Kingdom Atomic Energy Agency. He joined Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) as a Pool Officer. Later, he worked for about 2 years at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Kalpakkam Centre as Scientific Officer before joining Bharat Heavy Electrical Ltd. in 1978. Since then, he was with BHEL R&D in various capacities. He worked as General Manager and was in-charge of High Voltage & Swichgear, High Voltage, Power Transformers, Large Motors, Generators and Capacitors. He has more than one hundred and thirty five research publications in various National and International Journals and Conferences. He has guided 6 Ph.Ds and 36 M.Tech students. He was on Board of studies of JNTU, Hyderabad from 2005 to 2008. He is presently on the board of studies of Autonomous college of JNTU.

Dr. Singh retired on superannuation from BHEL R&D on 24th july 2007. He is establishing Centre of Excellence in High Voltage Engineering at Electrical Engineering Department Jabalpur College of Engineering, approved by Department of Science and Technology under TIFAC scheme.
